M e a n w h i l e  refers to a gradual process of change and is part of the multi-year programme of the Bewaerschole 'moving along with the environment'.

A silent ice landscape, pure, unblemished, still completely itself. Not yet tainted, untouched, virginal. Fragile and vulnerable. All shades of white, from yellowish turquoise to greyish pink, sometimes tending towards green or crumpled beige. Swan Lake tulle, satin slides, the spine of a broken iceberg is covered with small pebbles. Sparkling inside. Pieces that break off, float away and eventually melt.

The wedding dress, a world of girls' dreams, of lace, glitter and shine, of stringing beads and embroidering flowers. In the past, such a wedding dress was reused as a christening dress for the firstborn, the veil for the cradle. And among Catholics, as a communion dress. Nowadays, a wedding dress often costs thousands of euros and is only worn once. Bad clothing industry of underpaid labor, poor working conditions, insane profits, economic interest and waste, the height of consumerism.

This installation is a plea for modesty and willingness to cooperate. If you do not share these characteristics, then the marriage will also prove subject to erosion and succumb.

A waterfall of hiking boots tumbles into the serene, fragile artic landscape. A metaphor for humanity leaving its footprint everywhere on earth.
